CNU Graduate Programs Council

Purpose:  

 

The Graduate Programs Council (GPC) has oversight, authority, and responsibility for formulating and reviewing policy and making decisions about all graduate programs, education, and activities.   The Council conducts on-going assessment of graduate programs, provides leadership and direction for graduate faculty and programs and considers/approves general academic standards for graduate studies.  The Council considers and approves all curriculum additions, changes and deletions to graduate programs, and considers and approves new graduate programs.  The Council is responsible for providing and periodically revising basic educational philosophy for graduate programs,and for ensuring the maintenance of high standards in the graduate programs offered. Other responsibilities include:  making
recommendations regarding status of graduate students, appointing faculty to ad hoc Council committees, and reviewing and approving nominations for Regular and Associate Graduate Faculty membership or continuance.  The Associate Provost for Academic Services serves as the Director of Graduate Studies, and serves on the Graduate Program Council.  The Associate Provost reports to the Provost,  the University Chief Academic Officer.

News:  
May 2006 – The Graduate Programs Council has established a new website that is now available. It provides vital information on the Council activities, including meeting minutes, a list of current graduate faculty, and forms. The website should enable better coordination and communication of Council activities.

April 2006 - The majority of graduate programs governance polices and criteria were reviewed, updated, and re-approved during the April Graduate Programs Council Meeting.  The revised polices are posted on this website above in the Governance section.

Graduate Assistantships:

Graduates assistantships in teaching, research, or administration are available from
time-to-time
each semester for qualified student as financial resources are available.
The average amount of
financial assistance granted is $2000.00 awarded to 10-12
students per semester. Assistantships offer students the opportunity to enrich and
enhance their expertise and learning and/or gain additional experience in his/her
chosen profession.  Information on assistantship opportunities may be obtained by
contacting the Graduate Program Coordinator for the program of your interest.
